Welcome to my site. I hope you have fun here. This is a collection of stuff I have written. I am Pete and I enjoy life as a father, husband, teacher and writer.
I enjoy the process of creating and crafting stories and images with nothing but words. I have learnt a great deal about myself and about language whilst honing my writing. Those who knew me at school may find it surprising that the boy sat quietly at the back of the lowest English set struggling to a C grade during GCSEs now enjoys writing. At university, I struggled to write 1500 words on any topic and the less said about my 7500 word dissertation the better. I was guilty of throwing a few ‘double the the’ as a typo to boost the word count and including middle names and full dates added more. It is safe to say words were never my strongest asset.
Now is a different story, my first novel is finished and being edited by my wonderfully patient wife. I finished the story a long time ago and wrote several drafts, but I think it needs more work as I am improving all the time. I am also collecting a small treasury of short stories. I have tried several genres, horror, which failed spectacularly, fantasy, and my favourite has been children’s stories (not surprising given my career choices). Which brings me to the point, and I do have one. A few years ago, at school, a colleague was asking for ideas for an assembly; it had to promote writing and reading or, at least, spark an interest in stories. I had on my computer a beginning of a short story that I was unsure of; I did not know where I wanted the story to go. I said she could have the story for the assembly and ask the children what they thought should happen next. I would then take the ideas and write the story. The result was less than linear but did entertain and amuse for a half term’s worth of assemblies. That was “Rosetta’s Tail” and is available on Amazon.
Since this initial spark, I am on my fifth ‘assembly story’. It is called ‘Why don’t people say what they mean?’ and you can watch it grow on here. Also available on here are ‘Rosetta’s Tail’, the initial story, ‘Ben the Wolfhound’, and ‘Happiness’. You can also keep an eye out for hidden stories and spin offs such as ‘Shed’ and ‘Tallulah’s Christmas Carol’.
Please read, enjoy, leave comments, and share. (Especially the share bit.)
